‘Tis the season, bamboo season that is, for family drama.

When gorillas enter the bamboo zone, it’s difficult to predict what might happen. Because bamboo only sprouts during certain seasons, gorillas eagerly seek this nutrient-rich and delicious food when it is available. And, they often encounter other groups with the same goal. Uh-oh!

Happy World Monkey Day! You are likely familiar with the mountain gorillas in Rwanda, but have you met their neighbors, the golden monkeys? Today, we’re diving into the largest group of golden monkeys we monitor: the Kabatwa group. Learn more about their society, breeding patterns and identifying characteristics in honor of World Monkey Day.
