Historic Pablo’s group faces dominance shift
We’ve seen a big shift in one of our longest-studied mountain gorilla groups in recent months. Pablo’s group, which has been studied since 1993 and was led by famous silverback Cantsbee for a record 25 years – and most recently by his son, Gicurasi – has experienced a change in dominance. Over the last few months, a younger, more-aggressive silverback named Ubwuzu has begun to take over leadership. While many of the gorillas still remain loyal to Gicurasi, we will continue to monitor their activities and allegiances to see who is ultimately chosen as the leader of this historic group.
